New Challenge with More Mixed Media Challenges!

Hi everyone!! :)

Today starts up a new challenge over at More Mixed Media Challenges! This month's challenge is to use the color "Green" on your creations. It doesn't have to be all green but we would like to see some of it on your creations. :)

I decided to make another canvas to hang up on my wall. I love creating canvas's because the world is literally at your fingertips on what you create! It's a blank canvas just waiting for you to bring it to life. So I did just that! What do you think?

So it took me roughly an hour to do this. I don't have any assigned instructions on how I did this. I just kind of went with what I was feeling and pretty much "experimented" with things. The different shades of green background with all that yummy texture is my favorite! I used all sorts of products for this. I used the Faber Castel cements, masking tape, Clear Gesso, White Gesso, Nuvo Crystal Drops, gold leaf paste, acrylics, sand stone paste, metals, flowers, tulle, netting and some other little small details like brads and washi tape.

painted the white leaves a nice shade of green and added in the veins using my copic markers. Also added in a few gold leaf leaves.

Spelled out "Serenity" using Nuvo Crystal Drops.

NOT the best handwritten word but I love it!

My niece's name is Serenity and when I showed this to my mother, she said, "Oh did you make that for Serenity?" and it hadn't even crossed my mind that I chose a word that was the same as my niece's name. I just looked at it when this was complete and it looked peaceful to me. Like a place I would want to go and sit to meditate and be with nature. And the word Serenity just popped into my head. So I went with it. But now that my mom did ask me, I just may give this to my niece to hang in her bedroom. She's turning 4 this year, so I just may give this to her as a birthday gift!

New Challenge at More Mixed Media-

Hi everyone!! :)

Today starts up a new challenge over at More Mixed Media Challenges! This month's challenge is to use the optional color of "Purple" on your creations. It doesn't have to be all purple but we would like to see some purple color on your creations.

For my project, I decided to create an art journal page. I am very new to art journaling with only 3 double pages under my belt. But this is my very first art journal page where I literally took a pencil to sketch out my drawing. I am NOT good at drawing at all with a pencil, but I attempted it and I hand drew this entire page and then once it was completely finished by sketch, I took some paints and started to paint it all. I used various paints and white gesso. The vase was the hardest part to do because I wanted it to look like a clear glass vase with water in it. So I took white gesso and very light gray and blue paints to create the water and clear glass look. I added a bit of brown to also reflect the table inside the clear glass vase. I think that I was able to achieve the look pretty well, considering this was my first time trying to work on something like this. So the page is supposed to show the florals on a nice wooden table up against a wall. I also took some Dina Wakely scribble sticks to do the florals along with some paints for accents. I also took my Prisma colored pencils to do some shading on the leaves. The title was done using my copic multi-liner and my FB artist Pitt brush in black. I also took my white gel pen for hightlights on the florals and the letters in the title. It is not perfect, but it completely screams hand made and that is what I love about it. I am so happy with my very first completed sketched/painted drawing. Well that is it for today! Hope ya like it and that I can inspire you to hand draw your own art journal page!

New April Color Challenge at More Mixed Media Challenges~

Hi everyone!! :)

Today starts up a new challenge over at More Mixed Media Challenges! This month's challenge is to use the color "Yellow" on your creations. It doesn't have to be all yellow but we would like to see some Yellow on your creations. Yellow is a very happy and bright color. When I see things in this color, I automatically smile because the color truly brings me to my happy place. So let me just tell ya, the last two weeks have been hard on me. We got some bad news which has thrown a ton of stress and heartache my way and to make matters worse, my pain levels have been really bad. So with me having to be limited due to my pain, I honestly did not think I would get my project done in time. I literally finished it up yesterday!! But it is done! Want to see what it is?? :)

Found this table outside on the curb being thrown out. Well another person's trash always becomes my treasure! I decided to upcycle this perfectly round table!!! Can ya tell I am excited?? I wiped it down, sanded it around some of the edges and painted it using beautiful vintage yellow mustard seed milk paint. Once it dried, I took various Tim Holtz distress paints and a red rubber circle stamp from Hero Arts to create polka dots.

I thought I was done at this point as it looked really cute. But the artist in me wanted to keep going. So I did! Took out my Faber-Castell Pitt Artists brush pens in white and black and started to doodle. Yes Doodle!! I made arrows, hearts, polka dots, dashes and stitches and just had fun. I used the table top as a yellow canvas and went to town like I was creating an art journal page. I took a very fine tip multi-liner to go around the outside of my black circles to create a "messy string" look. I thought I was done after all the doodling but Nope! I knew I needed something else so I went with a few words that truly do speak to me and mean something in my colorful world. So I found a few areas on the table to coordinate some words with some of the circles. I alternated the letters with certain circles to give it a whimsical quirky look. The words I chose are, "INSPIRE", "CREATE", and "DREAM". I added my initials in-between two circles once it was completed for that personalized artwork! Hope you like my creation!
